Pemberdayaan Peternak Melalui Pelatihan Formulasi Blok Multinutrien Berbasis Bahan Lokal Untuk Meningkatkan Produktivitas Ternak Ruminansia Di Desa Teluk Santong-Sumbawa

Abstract

Ruminant farmers in Teluk Santong Village, Sumbawa, face seasonal constraints in the availability and quality of forage, particularly during the dry season. This community engagement program aimed to strengthen farmers’ knowledge and practical skills in producing locally formulated multinutrient feed blocks. The program used a participatory approach comprising problem identification, interactive socialization, demonstration and hands-on production, followed by mentoring and evaluation. The formulation introduced per 1 kg of product consisted of rice bran (40%), molasses (25%), tapioca flour (15%), Leucaena leaf meal (15%), and mineral salt (5%). Participants practiced weighing, mixing, molding, drying, and storing the feed blocks. The reported evaluation results showed an increase in participants’ understanding from 30% before training to 95% after training, equivalent to a 65-percentage-point increase. The activity also provided participants with direct experience in processing locally available materials into supplementary feed. These results indicate that practice-oriented training can strengthen farmers’ initial capacity to adopt simple feed-processing technology. Further mentoring and field evaluation are required to assess sustained adoption and effects on livestock performance.
